What's HOT when its COLD?!

Believe or not, Sydney is!

I’ve been checking in with my favourite social publications and there is a LOT going on in Sydney this month. The inspiration this month comes from Vivid.  The 3-week festival that officially marks the beginning of winter.  A fun-filled mix of art, technology and commerce.  Where creativity is showcased on stages, in seminars and on the street blending music, knowledge and light sculptures that are truly gob-smacking.

Every year Vivid lights up our city and brings back a bustling atmosphere of crowds walking the streets, frequenting bars and restaurants, street food, markets, busking, music and all things art.

Vivid gives way to a hubbub of creative and exciting things to see and do.  The only thing that is limited is the amount of time you have to squeeze in as many things as possible …and maybe money.

A colleague commented that it was like being in some of the large European cities where the atmosphere at night is much more alive.  Frankly, I have to agree with her.

As one would expect I have taken the proverbial bull by the horns and have booked a few things already.  There will be rooftop bars, a tall ship dinner cruise (which I’m super excited about, just quietly), Opera House show (A O Lang Pho - A Vietnamese Circus!), 80’s themed dinner and drinks at 'Chin Chin', markets and plenty of street food in between.

The first rooftop bar to mention is ‘Bar Ombre’ on level 3 of Gateway, Circular Quay.  It’s a pretty cool place, although it’s a rooftop bar most of the tables are covered from the rain and the ceiling heaters keep it warm and cosy.  There are some funky little pieces on the ceiling and a glowing garden that kept the Vivid vibes alive.

Happy hour is pretty early from 4-6pm but my $5 cabernet-merlot went down a treat.  It’s part of ‘Salt, Meats, Cheese’ the Italian purveyor of fast, fun & fresh food so it's worth grabbing something to eat while your there.

I didn’t find any beverage here worth entering my wintry challenge so this weekend I’m still on the lookout for the next contender.

Happy winter peeps …get out and get moving!!
